On March 17, 2026, Enugu State and Nigerians far and wide celebrate the 54th birthday of His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah; a visionary leader whose transformative governance has positioned Enugu as a beacon of progress and innovation. Born on March 17, 1972, in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Governor Mbah rose from humble beginnings, guided by values of diligence, integrity, and service instilled by his family. A distinguished maritime lawyer, financial analyst, and entrepreneur, he founded Pinnacle Oil and Gas Limited before entering politics, bringing strategic expertise to public service.Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Mbah has delivered revolutionary changes across key sectors, disrupting conventional governance to drive sustainable development. His administration’s bold vision to grow Enugu’s economy to $30 billion has translated into tangible milestones in just over two and a half years.One of the governor’s signature achievements is the Smart Green Schools initiative, a landmark project transitioning primary and junior secondary schools across all 260 wards into modern, technology-integrated, and environmentally sustainable learning environments. Launched to equip children with digital skills, AI, robotics, and experiential learning, this initiative marks a historic shift from rote-based education to world-class infrastructure. With consistent budget allocations exceeding 30% to education. Including 32.27% in the 2026 budget, Governor Mbah has prioritized human capital development to prepare Enugu’s youth for global competitiveness.Governor Mbah has overseen massive infrastructural upgrades, including over 1,000 kilometers of roads constructed in his first two years, urban road paving with proper drainage systems, and enhanced connectivity through dualization projects and rural-urban links. His administration has also introduced five ultra-modern transport terminals (such as Holy Ghost Terminals 1 and 2), a city taxi scheme with thousands of sedans, and plans for new aircraft to boost Enugu Air. These efforts aim to improve mobility, boost commerce, and support economic growth.Drawing from his business acumen, Governor Mbah has dramatically increased Enugu’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). After achieving a record ₦406.77 billion in 2025 (a 125% rise from prior years), the state targets an ambitious ₦870 billion in 2026. This fiscal discipline funds ambitious projects and reduces reliance on federal allocations.The recently signed ₦1.62 trillion 2026 budget, the largest in Enugu’s history and themed “Budget of Renewed Momentum” which allocated significant resources to capital expenditure (around 80%), with top priorities in education, infrastructure, economic sectors, water supply, transport, and security. It includes investments in reviving public assets, supporting SMEs, and industrial growth.Governor Mbah has tackled insecurity head-on through strengthened community safety measures, the Enugu State Security Trust Fund, and dismantling economic sabotage. In health, his administration has established Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across 260 wards. In agriculture, the shift from subsistence to industrial scale includes 260 farm estates and modern techniques to empower farmers and ensure food security.His leadership style has earned him accolades, including recognition as a transformative figure in governance.
